Some Instagram users reported that they received a shocking notification from the platform on July 31, 2024. A few photos had been permanently deleted from the app’s archives and stories and could not be recovered. Instagram created a trauma with this unexpected notification, “Due to a technical issue, this story is no longer available. While we have since fixed this issue, your story can’t be restored.”
In response, a Meta spokesperson explained in the press meeting: “We identified and rectified a bug that caused users’ stories and archives to be deleted. Sadly, we are unable to retrieve those stories and have already informed users who were impacted.”
Furthermore, he added that they fixed the black screen showing the error message issue. Hopefully, we don’t need to worry about the problem again.
Keep in mind that Instagram doesn’t save stories to a camera roll unless you enable this setting. Rather, those files are automatically uploaded to the Story Archives, which is why the bug arose due to overload.
It is better to back up photos, videos, and other story highlights using an external app. You don’t need to bother even if though the Instagram story is no longer available.
