SHORT ANSWER
Open the Google Maps app → Tap the profile icon → Select Settings → Navigation → Turn on Show speedometer.
The speedometer feature on Google Maps displays your vehicle’s speed on the navigation screen. The feature was launched on Android devices in May 2019. After five years, Google has finally brought this feature to the iPhone app and CarPlay. Additionally, they have added a speed limit indicator. It alerts you when you are driving too fast.
However, Google has stated that “Speedometers shown in the app are only for information use, and you need to use the vehicle speedometer for the original speed.”
How to Enable Speedometer on Google Maps
As we said earlier, the feature is already available on Android devices. If you’re an iPhone user, update the Google Maps from the App Store to get this feature.
1. Launch the Google Maps app and tap the Profile icon at the top-right corner to choose the Settings option.
2. On the Settings page, scroll down to select the Navigation Settings option. On iPhone, tap the Navigation option under the GETTING AROUND menu at the top.
3. Now, navigate to the Driving Option section on Android and the Map display section on iPhone.
4. Enable the Speedometer feature (On iPhone, it is indicated as Show speedometer).
Note – If you have linked Google Maps on Carplay or Android Auto, the speedometer will appear on the car dashboard.
