Google has rolled out a new design for the Maps app on Android devices. The update replaces the traditional full-screen menus of Google Maps with the sheet-based interface.
Earlier, the application displays the Search bar and the navigation menu edge-to-edge at the top. Now, the interface has been modified with rounder corners to make sure that they don’t cover the entire space. It helps you to see a bit of a map at the top corners. It also makes the overall appearance more immersive.
On the navigation page, the information that was shown at the top of the page has been moved to the bottom sheet. The location information page also displays a new share icon, which you can use to share the location using the messaging apps available on your smartphone.
The new layout was spotted first in February and it was developed following Google’s Material Design 3 guidelines. Now, the feature is rolled out globally on the stable version (version 11.136.x). The feature is not yet available on the iOS devices. Notably, last week Google Maps added a speedometer to the iOS version to check the speed of your vehicle.
