Google announced that it replaced the old “Photo” option with the “Everything else” feature, which is powered by AI. This feature lets you scan a picture of an event ticket, insurance card, etc., to create a digital pass and have it appear in Google Wallet. The updated version of Google Wallet has been released for Android in the US.
Once you scan a photo of a physical pass, the AI-powered tool will extract fields and bring related information. If necessary, you can even add your own fields or edit those. When we tested, this feature worked great for converting the following physical passes into digital versions.
- Car Insurance
- Driver’s License
- Business Card
- Health Insurance
- Events & Tickets
- Library Card
- Loyalty Card
- ID Card
- Residence Permit
- Passport
- Vehicle Registration
- Tax ID Card
- Student ID
- Voter ID Card
- Miscellaneous
Google Wallet stores photos of scanned items on the device itself. This means you don’t have to worry about cyber attacks compromising your sensitive information. Also, the information won’t be synced with other devices that were logged in with the same Google account.
In addition, you will be required to confirm your identity every time you open the pass in the app. You can even customize this feature.
