Finally, after twelve long years, Apple has brought Apple Maps as a web version in the latest public beta update. Quite interesting, right? Yes, starting this Wednesday afternoon (July 24, 2024), all the beta users can access its maps service directly from the web by visiting beta.maps.apple.com. It is available for the beta version on both mobile and PC browsers.
Similar to Google Maps, this web version performs all the functions of the app version. This includes exploring places, looking for directions, finding restaurants, finding the best routes, and many more. In addition to that, Apple also revealed that it’s about to toss additional features, like Look Around, which offers 360° panoramic view in the near future.
As of now, the Apple Maps web version is available only in English. Meanwhile, Apple might carry multiple language support in the upcoming months, after the official release.
Speaking of PCs, the Apple Maps web version is accessible with Safari and Google Chrome on iPad/Mac PC. Whereas, Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome for Windows. Also, Apple notices that all of their developers using the MapKit JS tool, can link out to Maps on the website, which makes it comfortable for users to look out to places or to get a detailed information.
Point of View!
Gags and trolls apart, Apple has been spreading its wings since the iOS 18 public beta update, including rearranging apps, customizing the home screen, integrating with AI, and many more. Following this, Apple made the right decision by expanding its Maps services to include web versions, which Google has been doing for a long time.
As of now, the Apple web version is working perfectly without any bugs and downfalls, even though it’s on the beta version. We wish there were more improvements and additional features to be included in the public release.
