Google’s Chromecast with Google TV is the backbone of users who don’t want to upgrade their TV to the latest models. Ever since its release, it has gained more popularity among users due to its sleek design and compatibility. However, ditching the old dongle with HDMI design, Google decided to replace it with a traditional set-top box.
9to5google has revealed the images of the set-top box, hearing from their sources, which is most likely to be named “Google TV Streamer.”
According to the leaks by 9to5google, when it comes to physical appearance, this Google TV Streamer has a slanted, pill-shaped surface that is wider than that of other streaming boxes. The purpose of this physical change might play a vital role in the device’s function, which is yet to be unwrapped by Google.
Along with the base, there are two cables extended from the back side, which are assumed to be Power and HDMI cables. Overall, the Google TV Streamer is length-wise compatible and easily fits under any television, eliminating the odd set-top box’s appearance.
Moving on to the remote controller, the Google TV Streamer’s remote controller is identical to the last generation Chromecast with Google TV, but quite longer. Beneath the Directional Pad, you can see the Home and Back buttons, replacing the Back and Google Assistant buttons.
The Google Assistant logo has been replaced with a simple Microphone sign. Along with these minute changes, the Volume Rocker on the side is driven to the remote’s face. Moreover, users can even get a customizable Magic button to launch any application without breaking a sweat.
However, the release date of Google’s new Google TV Streamer has not been officially announced. Since Google is releasing its upcoming products like the Pixel 9, Pixel Watch 3, and other series on August 13th, 2024, there’s a 50-50 probability of launching the Streamer at the event.
Point Of View
It is still unknown to users why Google modified users’ all-time favorite dongle design and assembled the conventional set-top box. This might be quite disappointing for some users who love the previous HDMI dongle design and the convenience it delivers when setting it up.
Rumors apart! Since the overall feature has not been released, we don’t know the reason for this significant change. In the future days, we think Google might unveil the added advantages and benefits of their new product compared to the previous one.
