UTM SE, a PC emulator for iOS, iPadOS and VisionOS is now available in the App Store. This emulator allows users to play retro games on their devices. The application is completely free and can be downloaded from the app stores. It is also expected to be released on AltStore PAL very soon.
In April, Apple revised its guidelines to allow retro game emulators on their App Store. It paved the way for the launch of various emulators, including the Nintendo emulator Delta. However, Apple has rejected the submission from UTM SE, citing that “the allowance is only applicable for retro emulators, not PC emulators.” Apart from the App Store, Apple has extended the rejection to various global App Store in the European Union.
On July 14, the developers announced that Apple has reconsidered its stance, and the application is available for download. They have also thanked a developer who helped with the JIT-less build.
Built on QEMU, the application supports VGA mode for graphics. The emulator is around 1.7 GB in size, and it will consume additional storage based on the operating system. You can download this app on iPhones and iPads running iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, respectively. Currently, it supports 12 languages and is expected to support more languages very soon.
